The Art Deco style 250 seat Regal Cinema in Fordingbridge was opened in 1935 and closed I the 1960s. It was a Pottery for a while, but has stood empty, in the heart of the town for many years. My client saved the building from demolition and created seven small apartments on top of it and created a smaller 30 seat community cinema with bar, loos and office within. Initially brought onto the project to choose bar furniture and a colour scheme, my role expanded to overseeing the project, full bar, screen surround, ticket booth and toilet designs with joinery drawings and selection of lighting, door furniture, film posters, flooring and finishes and design of bespoke cup-holders to match the Deco motif my client favoured. I was passionate about reinstating the Art Deco glamour and the client used a great audio visual specialist company, RibAV.co.uk so the equipment is state-of-the-art. The cinema reopened its doors as a community cinema and event space in July 2017. Further photographs to follow....
