This lovely, contemporary, new build house replaces a 1970s house on the same location, off Lansdowne Road in Bath, near the top of the hill, offering spectacular views. The architect designed it to be highly modern in style, but the owner prefers an interior style that's softer, more textural and timeless with an eclectic blend of colour, style and the odd vintage piece and warm metallics in brass and bronze. These preferences, as well as favourite colours in the blue-green area are a fairly close match to my own preferences, so it was a delight to work on this project! I reviewed the architectural plans and made some minor changes. I designed the whole Interior and sourced nearly everything, apart from some personal art and a few bits of furniture. I was involved with the kitchen design, layout and finishes, but the kitchen was semi designed, made and installed beautifully by Kingston by Design. I also designed all other joinery which was well made by Craig at LFL Woodworking. I designed and sourced all elements of the bathrooms, which were tiled to such a high standard by Christian Gent of CMG ceramics and stone tiling. I let the view and the colours outside lead the design in the formal lounge and kitchen. As always, I prefer to work with my client and give them plenty of agency on their choices and options, while trying to hold together successful schemes. The orange sofa in blue room for the TV room, was something I was asked to deliver. I feel this room needs some tweaks to the top layer to really make this room truly successful, but it is rich and comfortable. Photos don't do those fabrics and materials justice really. Overall, I'm so pleased that the whole house came out very close to our intention and imaginings. We used Venetian plaster in several areas, including the kitchen ceiling, Lounge chimney breast, principle bedroom headboard wall and staircase. Also microcement in the principle ensuite bathroom. These specialist plaster finishes were beautifully installed by Mike of Venetian Plastering Southwest. I designed the bronze cooker hood and selected the front door to be specialist coated in bronze by Anka Bespoke.
Work is ongoing on the garden, patios and external kitchen, so I have not yet professionally photographed this home. There are 3 bedrooms, belonging to the client's children, which I worked on, but did not photograph, to respect their privacy. The builder's work is generally complete inside, but continues on the exterior and garden. Paul Harrington and his team at Greengrove Construction did a lovely job.
Once the house had settled for a year, we did add some more colour and this map mural to a few areas including the dressing room
This little lounge by the guest rooms had a little makeover a year later after the building had had a chance to settle and any cracks that would appear had My client loved this Little Greene Yellow-pink colour and was brave enough to drench the room. He got rid of the pink sofa as the arms were too high and replaced it with one from his study in favour of a leather chesterfield there. We added a lovely TV unit and new rug
Love a good floor tile! This one is Sea Sparkle by Otto. The laundry is upstairs which seems so very modern! Closer to the wardrobes
I didn't photograph the 3 kid's rooms as they moved in so swiftly and there wasn't a moment of 'done and tidy' room. But we did have meetings together about colours and preferences and we did these 2 cool colour caps / painted ceilings and a painted wardrobe
